SAINT VALENTINE'S DAY 2012

14th February is the most romantic day of the year. It is Saint Valentine’s Day. People name this celebration “The Lovers’ Party”. This event is not only for lovers. On this day you express your affection to people you love or appreciate. On this day you give your sweetheart, parents, teacher, partner or dear friend a special object.

It is common to send a message in a heart shaped box of chocolate candies, a bouquet of tulips, a card, or jewellery. Children of Pre-Kinder to 3rd grade age, colour Valentine colouring pages. They give those pages to their parents or friends.

This is the story of Valentine’s Day. It is the year of 270 A.D. Claudius II is the Emperor of Rome. Marriage is illegal. For the emperor, married men are bad soldiers.

Saint Valentine is a brave priest. For Valentine, the prohibition is wrong. Valentine secretly performs marriage services. He joins the couples that come to him.

The soldiers capture Valentine. They take him to the emperor Claudius II. In prison, Valentine meets Asterius. She is the daughter of the guard. She is a beautiful girl but she is blind. Valentine and Asterius fall in love. Asterius recovers her sight... It is a miracle!

Valentine sends Asterius a final farewell note. He signs his last letter, “From your Valentine”.

Valentine is decapitated on 14TH February, 270 A.D.
